The Newfoundland tradition of mummers is that in which at Christmas time a group of friends would get together, dress in all sorts of costumes and go door to door in the community knocking and asking " any mummers allowed in". If the answer was yes, the group would enter the home and play music and dance around while the owners of the home would try to guess who each person in costume was. When the fun was done each mummer would be rewarded with a drink and snack for the entertainment. then the group would continue on to the next house and the traveling party would start all over again.
